Baseball has been played at Pine Grove Park in Staples since 1926. A resurgence of interest in the field began in 2008 when the Staples Lumberbats and the Staples Amateur Baseball Association (SABA) began fixing up the field. Since 2008, they have made improvements every year, which have incluided; new dugouts, fencing, infield grass and a new scoreboard. The next stage of the project is building a grandstand behind home plate with restrooms, concession area and a press box.

In 2015, a new sound system was installed for public address and music, a new flag pole, added red ball diamond aggregate at home plate and pitcher’s mound, added clay to the infield mix, a maintenance building and developed a design for the grandstand.

Chris Etzler of the SABA said they’ve already made more than $80,000 worth of improvements and it may take a couple of years to raise the next $80,000 for the grandstand.
