(Staples World photo by Kelley Kossan) Both SM boys and girls track teams competed at the True Team Section meet on May 8 in Glyndon and the boys, had some extra competition later at the Melrose Invitational on

May 10.

“The True Team went well for the girls and boys even though the times were not all that great,” commented Coach Jerry Reck. “The weather was very cold, windy and raining for the first couple of hours.”

Despite the weather, the boys still placed third out of 20 teams. Taking first at

Dillworth-Glyndon-Felton. At this meet, everyone’s place scores points for the team, not just the top six places, so the team scores were high. Staples Motley finished with a score of 980.

The only first place finishes came from Brian Huber in the both the long and high jump, but the team had four second places:

Zach Borders in both the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles, Huber in the 100m dash and Brandon Sterriker in the pole vault. Huber also ran to third place in the 200m dash, while the

4x400m relay team of Sterriker, Brito, Ziegler and Borders, took fifth.

On May 10 the boys went to Melrose and despite not too many standout performances still managed to capture third place. Huber set two meet records with his performances in the

200m and high jump and just missed the record in the long jump by two inches.

Cody Shaffer recorded a personal best in the discus, while Joaquin Brito also had PR in the 400m.

The Lady Cardinals came home from the True Team meet with an eighth place finish (787 points) ahead of 12 other teams.

First place wins came from Jaelin Beachy in both the hurdle events (100m and 300m). Beachy also placed second in the 200m dash. Courtney Lisson took third place in the 800m run with a time of 2:42, while Beachy jumped to third in the long jump. Fifth place finishes came from the 4x800m relay team of Lisson, Ziegler, Nanik and Peterson and Haley Christofferson in the 3200m run.

The girls did not participate in the Melrose event.
