Coughlin, Seuss and Solway win conference tennis championships

Guthrie Coughlin took first place honors at the number one singles position and Shane Seuss and Josh Solway were the champs at number one doubles in the Mid State Conference tennis tournament on May 10 at Park Rapids.

The Staples Motley boys finished second as a team at the match.

The conference tournament was the culmination of a busy week for the Cardinals.

On May 7 the Staples Motley team beat section rival East Grand Forks 5-2 but the remaining matches against Crookston and Thief River Falls were rained out that same day.

On May 8, scheduled matches against Park Rapids and Thief River Falls were also cancelled due to rain which had been rescheduled from the previous week. The match against Park Rapids did finally take place on May 9, with the Cardinals winning 7-0.

The section tournament is scheduled to start Monday, May 21, with a home match for the Cardinals likely as one of the top four seeds in section play. The winner will advance to play in the semifinal and final match in Crookston, scheduled for May 22 and 24.
