Samuel Morriss

Samuel E. Morriss, 56, of Staples, died Feb. 10, 2012 at the Heritage House in Pequot Lakes.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 16 at 2 p.m., at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Sam was born on Aug. 21, 1955, in Winnsboro, La., to Joseph and Helen (Johnson) Morriss. His family moved to Staples when he was in high school. He graduated from Staples High School in 1973 and attended college at Bemidji State University, where he received a BS in Mass Communication and a BA in History. Sam loved sports and worked as a sports announcer for over 30 years.

Samuel is survived by two sons, James Morriss of Minneapolis and Michael Morriss of Wadena; two grandchildren; two brothers, Eric (Mary) Nelson, Joe Morriss; one sister, Melissa (Glenn) Olson; two nieces; two nephews; and former wife, Nancy Morriss.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Greg.
