Open houses scheduled at Staples Motley schools

It’s ‘Back to School’ time in the Staples Motley Area. Classes at most schools begin the week of Sept. 7; but Open Houses are scheduled at all prior to that date.

Listed below are the area schools and information on Open House/Registration events:

MES/MSMS

Motley Elementary School and Motley Staples Middle School will

hold their Open Houses Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 5 - 7:30 p.m., a time for students

and their parents to visit classrooms and meet their teachers. MES Principal Jason Luksik, MSMS Principal Mark Schmitz; and MSMS Dean of Students Kevin Olsen will be on campus to speak with people and answer questions.

Hot dogs and chips will be served in the cafeteria from 5 - 6:45, free to parents and students.

A general meeting for MSMS students will be held in the large gym from 5:50 - 6:15 p.m.; and sixth grade students and their parents will have a short meeting in the small gym at 5:30 p.m.

From 6:15 - 6:35 p.m., eighth graders can register for electives; and from 6:35 - 7 p.m., seventh graders can do the same. After this, the students are invited to participate in a mock schedule.

Because the main entrance to the school (located at the southwest area of the school) is currently under construction, people are asked to enter the school by the southeast door, which is located by the portable buildings. Parking will be available in that area.

Also under construction is the new main office area, which will be located in the new addition. Dean of Students Kevin Olsen reports that the offices will remain where they have been until construction has been completed.

Once the new office space in finished, the old office area will be used as partial space for the special education department.

The only change that will occur prior to school starting is a new location of the staff lounge/conference room. It is now located where Mr. Olsen’s classroom used to be.

Classes resume Tuesday, Sept. 7, for students in grades 1 - 9; Wednesday, Sept. 8, for grades 10 - 12; and Thursday, Sept. 9 for kindergartners.

SHAS

Sacred Heart Area School will hold an Open House Wednesday, Sept. 1.

New parent orientation begins at 5:30 p.m.; and a potluck dinner will be served in the school gymnasium beginning around 6 p.m.

After the meal, students and parents will be able to visit their classrooms; and talk with Principal Jim Opelia and other teachers.

Classes at SHAS begin Tuesday, Sept. 7.

SES

Staples Elementary School will hold its Open House Thursday, Sept. 2, from 4 - 5:30 p.m.

Students and parents will have a chance to meet Principal Jason Luksik and their teachers, as well as visit their classrooms.

Principal Luksik will also be holding a “New Parents Meeting” at 5 p.m. in the library, a chance for families who are new to the school district to ask questions. This is a new addition to the orientation and Luksik said he hopes a lot of parents stop by.

Also new this year will be a number of displays set up in the gymnasium, highlighting local organizations which are a part of this community. These include the police and fire departments, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts; and area churches.

School resumes at SES Tuesday, Sept. 7, for grades 1 - 5; and on Thursday, Sept. 9, for kindergartners.

SMHS Staples Motley High School will hold its Open House Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., outside of The Centennial Auditorium.

Ice cream sundaes will be served; and a number of extra curricular activities will have booths set up. Students will receive a stamp after visiting the booths and will have a chance to win prizes.

Students and parents will also have the opportunity to meet new high school Principal Ryan Luft, as well as other teachers.

Freshmen are invited to pick up their schedules and tour the building.

Classes resume Tuesday, Sept. 7, for freshmen; and on Wednesday, Sept. 8, for grades 10 - 12.
